Thoughts on Gloves Come Off

I actually thought that this series was quite promising after watching the first few episodes. It got exciting went it reached halfway through. But when Don got Alzheimer, "Why?!! TVB, you're doing it all wrong!" She can't make new memories, only remembers the old ones. If you have to be so cruel, at least make her forget her past with Sap Yat and let her make new memories with Sap Yat. Let Sap Yat pursue her all over again! Even though that is cliche, I don't mind that ending. It's better than this rushed ending.

And I really wanted to see Ah Ting participating in Muay Thai competitions as how they did with Buddy. Well, I hope Bo Bo's death would tell the HK government that their alleys aren't safe! They should do something with those metal pipes!

I think I partly get the message within Sap Yat's story he told to Don in the ending. Although it should be a head with two faces not two heads, but here it goes. My interpretation might not be accurate. What Sap Yat really wanted to tell is, even though when two people separates (in their case, one party forgets as in Don getting Alzheimer), they will have that special feeling when they meet again (given they were in love with each other before which is a YES for Sap Yat and Don) no matter where or when they will meet each other. Both of them will somehow be best of friends. I can't say lovers because Don will forget.

Overall, I think it deserves a 6-7 out of 10.

What I do like is the English songs choice for this show!

Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

This song really suit some scenes in the series! The song got stuck in my head for quite a few days!

The Brothers Four - Try To Remember

This song is soothing to the ears. Simple yet meaningful. Love it to bits!

As for the theme song sang by none other than Kevin Cheng, it was quite weird at first but after listening to it for 25 episodes, the song isn't that bad! I do hope if Kevin does another TVB series, please have hair on his head! He looks like a gangster with that shaved head!

I actually hoped that TVB does an alternative ending for this series, something happy for Sap Yat and Don. But, even if they don't, I hope they make a 2nd Gloves Come Off series. This time, don't do a sequel, instead do a prequel.

What the prequel must have:

a) How Muay Thai chose Sap Yat
b) How Sap Yat and his first wife (played by Kate Tsui) met
c) All Sap Yat's training to become the boxing king
d) All Sap Yat's Muay Thai competition
e) Sap Yat entering jail after accidentally killing Som Chai's father
f) The tragic death of Sap Yat's wife

Any other necessary plot points to make the prequel a prequel to the current Gloves Come Off series. Come to think of it, I find the sales presentation clip for Gloves Come Off to be more interesting than the actual series.

Gloves Come Off Finale

Hey everyone! Sorry for being missing for quite awhile from my blog. Never had the chance to write synopsis for other TVB series finale! I read somewhere that the finale of Gloves Come Off has been leaked hours before its premiere which is around this morning. I was quite shocked! Here's the screencaps of the finale.

I didn't really like Tong Sap Yat (Kevin Cheng) and Don aka Miss Chai (Selena Li) ending. She has Alzheimer, got married with Sap Yat and just left. How cruel is that? See the last row of screencaps on the 2nd picture? I really pity Sap Yat and quite mad at him. Why didn't he muster his courage and try to refresh her memory? Or maybe, he wants to pursue her all over again like something out of the movie The Notebook or The Vow.

Sai Cheung (Power Chan) finally turns himself in to the police. Vicky (Katy Kung) starts a new life after waking up from a coma. Ah Ting (Nancy Wu) and Ah Lik (Otto Chan) went on to be successful Muay Thai boxers.

Last but not least, Buddy aka Pat Ka Sing (Raymond Wong). His family's taufu business expanded. He became the head at Tang Lung Muay Thai Gym taking over from his father-in-law. And his daughter, Yung Yung is so adorable. Love her to bits!

So, what's your opinion on the finale? I really hope that they will make an alternative ending like what they did with Lives of Omission. That's all for now!
